Proofreading & editing
There are several reasons why it is a good idea to have a text - especially if it was translated in Poland, or in the Czech Republic - checked independently here in the UK:
- You want to be sure that the local translator understood 100% of the English, especially the style (i.e. that s/he correctly distinguished between the formal and the colloquial passages), and all the contemporary expressions. Mistranslation can cause unintended humour, or worse, misunderstandings. The English of Central European translators is usually good but school-taught, which means that the translator does not always have the feel for it compared to someone who lives in Britain.

- You want to check the accents and hyphenation before your brochure is printed, or before your letter is sent.
|
- You want to consult cultural sensitivities as your original mailshot or brochure did not bring the expected results.

Double-checking is always more cost-effective in the long run. For a look at
how saving on translations can mean a false economy, please see Not my translations
Translating voiceover scripts & voicing videos
Translating scripts requires special skills. The text has to match the picture exactly, which may mean making certain adjustments in the translation itself in order to make the video work as a whole.
As an ex-radio newsreader, I am also experienced in recording sessions.
Examining and assessing language applicants
If your company needs to recruit employees with a knowledge of Polish or Czech, I can carry out a mini-interview in
that language, or give them a written text to translate which I then evaluate to tell you their level of knowledge of the required language. I am an Institute-of-Linguists approved examiner.
Transcribing audio tapes
I can transcribe and translate audio tapes of interviews in Polish, Czech and Slovak.
